Why Raj/ Rahul reinstated the hope in Prince Charming...

I remember I was around 10 years old when I read the stories of Cinderella and Prince Charming..It was a story so beautifully weaved, every girl believed in the innocent love of the Prince Charming who would rescue her from her life, take her into a magical world and you’ll live “happily ever after”. The concept of an “andekha anjaana sa” who was born somewhere just for you. Who would come into your life and sweep you off your feet. Who would love me more than I ever knew it was possible, who would make me so happy, I would want to spend the rest of my life with him.

Then, I saw Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge..and I could put a name and face to that anjaana andekha sa..Shah Rukh Khan as Raj/Rahul. The quintessential romantic hero; People not only fell for Shah Rukh Khan, but with the idea of meeting their Raj/Rahul. Everything from his charming smile, his sparkling eyes, dimples on his cheeks like the sun rising on the sky. But it wasn’t just the charismatic aura that Shah Rukh possessed…

It was the enticing notion of bumping into our Raj amidst a trip with friends, or our Rahul who would be our first friend in college - One guy who might be videsi in his thoughts but Hindustani from his heart. Who would love you enough to not just impress you, but win the hearts of the whole family. Who would forgive your mistakes and look over your flaws by just saying “badi badi deshon mein aisi chhote chhote baatein hoti rehte hain”; who would know you the best and love you beyond words –  “Main ek Hindustani hoon ... aur main jaanta hoon ki ek Hindustani ladki ki izzat kya hoti hai" and “tumhare chehre ke sivah mujhe koi aur chehra dikhai nahi deta” or “Hum ek baar jite hain, ek baar marte hain, shaadi bhi ek hi baar hoti hai, aur pyaar, pyaar bhi ek hi baar hota hai”  or “Ek mard ka sir sirf teen aurton ke saamne jhukta hai. Ek apni maa ke saamne, ek durga ma ke saamne aur…”

What probably Shah Rukh or Yash Raj/ Dharma didn’t realize they were doing or probably wanted exactly that – they made every girl hopeful to meet their Raj/ Rahul who was just like everything they had imagined if not more. Every girl waited for the perfect soul mate whom you might have just known for a month but you know “ho gaya hai tujhko to pyaar sajna…laakh karle tu inkaar sajna”..

Come…Fall in Love…

With the magic of love and the promise it holds…

Watch DDLJ to celebrate its 1000 weeks just like I did !

Who knows...you might discover love along the way…
